A fund to accelerate the transition to a clean and sustainable future.

Smart Seed is a new fund of Hampshire Foundation.
Smart Seed focuses on reducing environmental degradation and global warming through innovative financing.

think globally. act locally.

We focus primarily on programs in Connecticut in order to maximize the intensity of our efforts and strengthen our relationships with collaborators.

We fund two key partners

Sustainable CT

Created by towns, for towns. A practical step-by-step roadmap to completing the actions required to create a sustainable, livable community. Includes actions, resources, technical assistance, peer learning, and recognition.

In Our Back Yard

In Our Back Yard supports grassroots involvement in the same key activities as Sustainable CT, but is driven by passionate citizens. Support includes: community organizing, a dedicated project website, access to crowdfunding and Accelerator grants for the project.
